Social Cinemas: Politics of Representation and Engagement

A public talk discussion took place on June 7th at 6 pm in Goethe-Zentrum Eriwan. The event was facilitated by artist Megan Young.

The term social has been used to describe forms of media, arts practice, public activism, and government structures. This conversation considered social as a concept within the contemporary film and video practices, and with respect to identity and representation. Megan Young introduced notable works by artists Maya Deren, Shirley Clark, Issac Julian, Marlon Riggs, boychild, Alicia Grullon, and Nic Kay. Following a presentation, she facilitated a discussion wherein guests shared their approaches, perspectives, or questions around representation in digital mediums and tools of audience engagement.
